Big Bear Lake is quickly becoming known as the hot spot for classic east coast single track. Years of trail development, by experienced mountain bikers have created a trail system that will have you grinning ear to ear. The terrain has everything to offer; gradual climbs, large embedded rocks, tight slaloms, challenging rock gardens, and off the saddle downhills. Miles of trail wind through knee deep ferns and flora, soft needle pine plantations and groves of mountain laurel. Riders of all ages and abilities will find trails to fit their individual riding skills and need for adrenaline. Big Bear is the place to bring the entire family to experience mountain biking at its best.

We make it easy to find your way around. Four distinct loops, ranging from 8 miles to 23 miles each, are marked with color coded arrows. Each loop has varying degrees of difficulty to match your riding abilities. Trail maps are also provided at the main entrance to customize our own ride. A system of checking in and out allows for an added degree of safety.

All trails may be used for hiking and x-c skiing.

Cyclists enjoying trails at Big Bear Lake may inquire about overnight camping sites with Beaver Creek Village. Families and groups of all ages have enjoyed camping, cycling, and hiking in the 4, 000 acres of the impressive 27 miles of existing paved road, gravel roads, scenic single track, rock gardens, and heart pounding descents!

Big Bear Lake is conveniently located at Exit 29 on Interstate 68. Only miles from the Maryland state line. This is within a three-hour drive from several major cities. Treat yourself to the trails West Virginia's top expert cyclists train on, and several 6 year old's too!

X-C Race

12:00 Start

Registration begins 9 am inside front entrance, look for signs.

Race Course Change: The start will no longer be on the road. Races will enter the trail immediately following the start. Race will be a staggered start. Experts at noon, Sport at 12:12, Beginner at 12:35.

Nearly all of the 16 miles of racing is in single/double track. This extremely fast and technical course is full of large embedded rocks, which provide wide grin racing for all skill levels. All expert racers will do a 16 mile loop. Sport racers will do a 13 mile loop. Beginner racers will do a shortened 8-mile loop. Two water stations are provided along the course.

The kid's race will be held at 10:00 Sunday morning just before the adult race. Young racers will be treated to a true "in the woods" kids course. All kid racers will receive medals and a hand dipped ice cream cone from the Big Bear County Store. Having the kid's race on Sunday provides a unique opportunity for the entire family to participate in a mountain bike event. Classes are ages 6 through 12, both girls and boys.

Times are: Registration opens at 9:00 am Kids race at 10:00 am Start Time: 12:00 noon

Classes: All WVMBA point classes, All expert classes will receive at least 100% cash payback purse and a $30 season pass to bike Big Bear. Hand thrown pottery prizes will be awarded at least 3 deep depending on class size to all other classes. Showers and bike wash are provided. Fees: Kids Race $5.00, WVMBA members $30.00, non-members $35.00

Big Bear Lake 20 K Trail Run

Registration: $20 pre-registered by April 19th, $25 after April 20th and on race day (8:00 - 9 :15AM).

Course Change: This 20k Trail Run is almost all wide single track trail, with a beautiful section of towering pines.

Details:Commemorative pint glasses for pre-registered entries only. Two water stops along the course with post-race food and refreshments provided. Race starts at 9:30am.

12 Hour Trail Run Race

July 17, 2010

Start 7:00 am

6.5 mile laps

This is a 12 hour trail run starting at 7am and going until 7pm. It is run on a approximately 6.5 mile loop and athletes must check in on each loop. There will be a water stop at the beginning of the loop and another water stop at half way, but carrying your own water is encouraged.

You can run as a solo, duo team (2 person team), 4 person team, or a "Just for Fun" team of any number more than 4. The trail is only of moderate difficulty and is suitable for trail runners of all levels.

The Goods: T-shirt, on-site camping, aid station, post-race feed, and one great time.

Camping is Free: Friday and Saturday nights at the top of the mountain at the race start/finish area. However, this is about a mile from the nearest comfort station (i.e. running water and showers). There will be porta potties (we're hoping to have these upgraded for this year) at the race venue/camping area. RV and Tent site camping with electric and near the shower/bathroom is $10 a person, children under 5 are free.

Registration is due by July 10th. Late Registration after July 10th is $80 per person regardless of race class .

Packet Pick-up can be done on July 16th until 6pm or on race morning until 6:30am.

Ultra Light Category - 23 mile loop Men's and Women's Open $45

The Big Bear Ultra is the 3rd race in the WVMBA ultra series. It is a mountain bike race that tests the participants, endurance & ability. Only well conditioned cyclists should attempt this event.

Registration will be open Friday evening between 6 and 9pm and Saturday morning at 7am.

Course: Consists of a 50 mile single track loop. The course will be well marked. Please be aware, due to the length and nature of the course it is up to the racer to watch for the signs. There is no cut off in 2010. At least 4 aid stations will be in place with water and snacks. .

Cost: $60 WVMBA members, $65 non-members

Tee shirts to all racers with food and beverages afterwards

Weekend camping at Beaver Creek is free for all racers and $15 for non-racing guest
